New Caledonia, a future digital hub in Oceania
New Caledonia positions itself as a major digital player in Oceania. The country has great potential due to its ambitions for innovation and to its know-how being regionally recognized.
New Caledonia invests in talents, university training and start-ups in the sector:
Station N in Nouville, inaugurated in November 2020, is a new workplace totally dedicated to the Tech ecosystem and which aims to develop the digital sector.
"You will be able to settle, grow and flourish at Station N", said Christopher Gygès, in charge of the digital economy at the government. “This place will showcase the future of the digital industry on the territory, a sector which we can be proud of locally but also on a Pacific scale."
In addition, the great digital school has created a 16-month software and web developer training course in New Caledonia.
A sector with great potential in full development :
- 8 out of 10 Caledonians surf the Internet, an increase of 19% compared to 2011.
- 61% of them are registered on social networks, compared to 42% on the global average.
- 50% of public services have a website.
- 145 tele-services are made available to users by the administration.
- 65% of the country's companies are connected.
“We have enormous room for improvement in a region which is poor in technology and where we can be the best, through the talent of our engineers" explains Hatem Bellagi, director of the OPEN NC, the cluster bringing together companies in the technological sector.
Furthermore, New Caledonia has 210 active companies in the digital sector (figures for 2016), a number that is experiencing an average annual growth of 6.3% and which represents nearly 3% of the GDP. These generate around 1.850 jobs and nearly 58 billion XPF (484 million euros) in sales.
Promising statistics, which reflect the great potential of this territory!
